Everybody needs to take time off now and again to just think about themselves. However this doesn’t necessarily need to be unproductive. At the moment I have so much work I need to get done that I have come to view weekends as just days allocated to work. However, this is a negative, unhealthy way of thinking as I get to Monday feeling completely exhausted and have a busy week to contend with.
I realise that I can’t control how much work I get set each week, but I can change how I view it. In order to change things I decided to try and think about the weekend in a different way, instead of labelling it as ‘the time I have to get everything done’ I have instead tried to think of it as ‘a day for me’.
Now this doesn’t mean taking the whole day off and not even thinking about work, it means allowing me to have time to do other stuff I enjoy, such as reading, writing, seeing friends or going for a run, and not beating myself up about not spending that time doing work. Of course I will still get work done, but it will not be the main focus of my day and I will take time to relax and enjoy the day and the work that I’m doing.
I recently got a pin board that I intend to fill with photos and memories. It has been something that I’ve been meaning to do for a while but I had never got round to it until I found one in one of my favourite shops, Tiger. I love this shop because it is filled with novelty gifts and really cute things that I love. I want to spend time doing this, and I feel that it will be a nice break from work.
Take some time to de-stress and enjoy everyday by doing something that makes you happy!
